Nice review! I'd have to say that I don't think "Moonchild" is weak by any means. It's not meant to be something you sit down and listen to necessarily, but it's more about a feeling and effect. The sort of mysteric lyrics set you up for the "coda" that you speak of. I think they were really getting into something that hadn't been touched by too many (if any) rock bands. I think the sounds that are created really set a landscape... we've just heard about the moonchild, and now we get to experience what it's like to be her.
"Dreaming in the shadow of the willow... Sleeping on the steps of a fountain... Dropping circle stones on a sun dial..." and mostly "Drifting on the echoes of the hours..." are all things I feel from the sounds presented in this piece. I think this is an abstract concept to grasp and I have to displace myself from the knowledge that I'm listening to a progresive rock band.. of course... that might be what the whole idea behind progressive rock is... expression!

If you're a classical junkie like me, and you know the suite by Gustov Holst "The Planets," you can find the same sort of ideas. I think it's a bit about creating landscape and scenery through music... if you just listen and let your mind go, you can immerse yourself in an atmosphere.

Maybe I'm way off, I've never really expresed what I thought about this song to anyone before.. what do you think?

Green river is great. I wrote a parody of it at: http://www.realcrash.com/mortgage-blues-at-green-river/. I really went into a heavy flashback when I heard "Little Creedence Song" on the radio.

I'm not a huge fan of Green River (the song), though I've never heard the full album. I do like Lodi though, I think it is a really well-written and well-arranged piece. I have to confess the first version of Lodi I heard, some years ago, was a country cover by Emmylou Harris (on her "Live at the Ryman album) that was played so well that I didn't even realise it was originally a rock song. It's interesting how different instrumentation can create a totally different sound on the same song.

The sad thing about "Bad Moon Rising" is that now, decades after this song was written, in this age of climate change there probably are people worrying along the same lines. It is an interesting contradiction, such dark lyrics with such a cheerful melody. On the subject of country covers, Hayseed Dixie did a version of "Bad Moon Rising" for their halloween themed album. On the CD, they end the last chorus with "There's a Bathroom on the Right" which apparently many people think is genuinely the last line of the chorus. I've heard Fogerty sings this now sometimes when playing live :-) I heard Hayseed Dixie play "Bad Moon Rising" live once and they used the original, correct vocal. Again, it was interesting to see how different instrumentation could turn a rock classic into a bluegrass number.

I've not heard the album in full, but I generally agree with what you say about the songs I have heard. "Bootleg" is painfully repetitive in my view and "Keep on Chooglin'" doesn't do much for me either. I have to confess I'm not a big fan of "Born on the Bayou", though it seems to be one of your favourites. You're right about "Proud Mary" though, that one's a classic in my view and one of CCR's best.
Later songs from later albums were often better and John Fogerty - who seems to be an absolute virtuoso on zillions of instruments - did some decent solo material as well.

It's really surprising, this is my friend favorite stories about Emerson, Lake and Palmer. According to them they created a very unpredictable rock music that many peoples like. I think your question about the members are not that important. We all know that all of members the guitarist, keyboardist and even the vocalist are all important. I like also rock but ballad is my focus.

Well it's good for the group,. I don't know about this group but with your details I can say that the group have confident with their pass albums. They have all their efforts to pursue their albums and other music. But I'm looking for more ballad musicians.
